Submission Guidelines


Sustainable Eating strives to serve as a community-building tool for its diverse readership. As such, it only makes sense that its shape and content should come from you, its readers. Please contact us with any story ideas or editorial suggestions that you have.

If you are interested in contributing your work, please consider upcoming issue themes when developing your story ideas. We invite all kinds of submissions, including: personal essays; news articles; feature stories; interviews; profiles of people, organizations and projects; investigative reports; service journalsim stories; and fiction.

In addition, Sustainable Eating is always looking for:

  • recipes featuring local, seasonal ingredients;
  • food-related book, film and product reviews;
  • information on upcoming events, actions and campaigns;
  • news briefs on food-related current events (food policy updates, food-related research, health and nutrition news, etc); and
  • artwork (all mediums welcome).

Submission Guidelines:

Please send all submissions to submissions@semagazine.com.

For written submissions, please send your work as an unformatted text-document. Please provide your full name (as you would like it to appear), your contact information, a short biography, a title for your submission, and any other information that you would like included (accompanying photos/images, related URLs to link to, sidebar content, etc).

For art submissions, please send your work as high-resolution jpeg files. Please provide your full name (as you would like it to appear), your contact information, a short biography, a title for your submission, an artist's statement and any caption(s) or accompanying text that you would like to appear with your work.

Submissions may be edited for accuracy, flow and space considerations. However, every effort will be made to preserve the author's voice and style.

PLEASE NOTE: Sustainable Eating is an all-volunteer, independent media project. No compensation can be offered for submissions, beyond the opportunity to be involved in our community-building efforts and to have your work highlighted in the zine. Thanks for understanding.
