Letter from the Editor

Issue #1: Eating Local

Having lived a vegetarian and vegan lifestyle for the past 13 years, I understand that diet often reflects ethical, environmental, community and personal health concerns. For many of us, the food we eat is a reflection of our values, our ideals and our commitment to our beliefs — for many of us, food is a way of life.

For those of you who have likewise made food a way of life, I hope you will enjoy Sustainable Eating as a place to explore the ecology and ethics of the foods we eat, as well as a place to connect with others who share our passion for food and a strong sense of communtiy.

Because there are many different pathways to sustainable living, this magazine is designed to be a collective venture and production. By sharing our stories, our artwork, our recipes and our ideas, we can bring together the resources and information needed for each of us to find a healthy and sustainable lifestyle that is right for us.

May we work together in realizing our potential to live and eat responsibly.
